The
Delaware Duo
First
things first. With the assistance of Sue and Bear, all four have
been examined by my vet, Dr. Roberts, gotten shots and will soon be spayed/neutered.
They will have to learn to walk on leash, get used to house noises, get
housebroken, and learn how to like attention from people. They are
so frightened all the time, even on the lap of a loving person. So
this is NOT a request for people to adopt them, since there is so much
to do before they will be ready. I have recruited friends to come
play with them.

Fortunately,
the four I have here look relatively healthy! However, you might

this puppy mill and what they saw.

2/13/02 A Letter Home from "Shoofly Pie" aka Toby now. Thanks to the Cloutier family for adopting him.Pot Pie "Potsie"Hi Lois,
I thought I'd pop in and let you know how "Shoo-Fly" is
doing. We, of course, are calling him Toby (I always seem to give my dog
people type names.) I'm happy to report that he is doing great. He now has
a new little brother. Lamar is our newest Seeing Eye pup, a golden
retriever now 11 weeks old. They are a riot playing together. Toby is so
good and gentle with him. But boy can they mix it up!I am also taking Toby to obedience classes with the hope of one day entering
him in obedience and/or agility. He has come such a long way in his
confidence. At class the other night I had him in a down stay and the
trainer comes by with pull toys that squeak and bouncing balls. He watched
and looked, but never broke. I was so proud of him. Sometime I'll manage
to get pictures to you. Oh, I also wanted to tell you about Christmas.
both my brothers came from out of town with their mastiffs! Toby thought
they were his Christmas present! Cows!!!! Thank you again for rescuing
him for me.
In corgi love,
Jan CloutierWhen I asked Jan for permission to share her mail with others, she replied:
By all means, please share about Toby with everyone! He has really filled a
hole in my life from losing my Merlyn. When I remember how when we first
got him he never wanted to be picked up or held. Now he jumps up in the
chair before you sit down! (He's a bit spoiled :-) He's no longer afraid
of strangers, either. For the longest time when someone new came in the
house he would run around like a crazy dog, but if you caught him, he peed.
Through the obedience trainer I found a lady who runs an animal health store
and she gave me some drops to give him. After about 3 weeks of these he was
completely over the wetting and no longer needs the drops.
Toby is constantly with me, or should I say ususally. He is so confident
now that sometimes he goes upstairs to his crate to sleep by himself. But
right now he's asleep under my chair.

10/16/04 At the Gloucester County KC in New Jersey, Shoofly paid a visit. When I saw him and how well-adjusted he is, I just burst into tears. What a change from the frightened little dog I had first met.10/24/04
Hi Lois,
This is Jan, Toby, AKA Shoo-Fly's mom. We were so happy to see you and Bear
at the show last weekend! As we were telling you at the show, Toby is such a joy. He has fit in so
well. His claim to fame is that he has helped raise 3 Seeing Eye pups. And
I do mean that he helps. When the pups are small he acts like Dad, and is
good at nurturing them. As they get bigger he keeps them busy. They chew
on him instead of our furniture! The first pup he raised is now a working
guide dog in North Carolina. The second didn't make it as a guide dog. She
was a chocolate lab who just had a thing for cats. But Toby can still be
proud of her. She is now working as a drug sniffing dog. The third pup you
met at the show. Lambert, now 11 months. Toby teaches the pups that even
though they may get to be way bigger than him, it's the size of your heart
that matters. I'll be sending you some pictures as I go through them. They
are so fun to watch together.

Scrapple

Unfortunately, Scrapple simply could not
adjust to living safely with her
wonderful new owners and, sadly,
had to be sent to the bridge.
The relatives of the dead owner had absolutely
zero information about the dogs as to age, whether or not they are spayed/neutered,
vet's name, etc. So the first thing that has to be done is get my
vet to make a house call. Nobody wants to try to get these dogs in
a car again! Tomorrow I will get some pictures and put them on my
rescue page. And tomorrow, Kali and Cassie will start their new diet
and exercise regimen.
